How I Found Panic! At The Disco
"Hey Lily! I got a new CD from the library!" Tom said, coming through the garage door from putting his bike
up. It was a sunny afternoon, and I was lounging on the couch watching The Regular Show. "Cool! Which
band?" I said, looking up. "Panic! At The Disco. Taylor and I are doing a project on them for History of
Popular music. She really likes them. She actually knew the lead singer before he was famous!" Tom
replied. "Haven't heard of them." I said, hardly paying attention. I always got caught up watching The
Regular Show. "Do you wanna at least listen?" Tom said, showing me the albums One was maroon and
had some photoshopped women on it, another had Pretty.Odd. written on it in an interesting font and setup.
The final album was two finely dressed men of about 20 years of age and a third person in a goat mask. I
secretly thought that the two well-dressed men were very attractive. "Oh okay. It's an old episode anyway." I
said, getting up and following him upstairs to his room. It was a dark room, with a single bed and some
shelves on the walls. He always kept the shutters closed, making this room have a gaunt appearance. I
opened the shutters and the whole room lit up. It was only 2:30; it shouldn't be this dark anywhere. He took
the CD out of the one designated Pretty. Odd. and put it in his old silver radio. From the moment he pressed
play, a memory of 2 years back came back. I was sitting on the bus, messing around with my friend Joe,
and this song was playing. I loved the song, but never spent so much time as to figure out who sang it. The
song was called Nine in The Afternoon. " I.. know this song! " I said, thinking. I remembered every lyric. It
was still my favorite song, but now that I know the person singing it, I had an insatiable interest in the
band. When the song was over, we listened to the entire album. "Next Album!" I squealed. I had never been
so motivated by music. "Someone likes Brendon Urie!" Tom teased. "Who's that?" I said, confused. He
pointed to the man on the left of the goat man on the album called Vices and VIrtues. I blushed. "I can't say I
don't." He looked as good as he sang. "Well then.." Tom said, putting in the next album. I heard many a
song, but a few stuck out for me. I had heard two of them on the radio before, but didn't know who sang
them. It was like I found the band that I had secretly liked for years. I loved every song; they all had perfect
melodies, and the lyrics had so much meaning in them. The vocals were the best though. They had a
certain uncapturable trait in them that just completed the songs somehow. The instruments were all played
with such precision. "This is the most perfect band ever created." I thought to myself. "Like them?" Tom
said, raising an eyebrow at me. I had unintentionally sat there, thinking of the marvellous band, for a long
time. I had dazed out at the thought. "Wha-Yeah. A lot. Is this all their music?" I said, snapping back to
attention. "Yep. Vices and Virtues came out a few months ago." Tom said. "Just out of curiosity, who are
the other two people on the front of Vices and Virtues?" I asked. "Well that one is Spencer Smith, the
drummer, and nobody knows who is in the goat mask. I think it might be their current guitarist, Dallon
Weekes. They broke up in 2009.The band lost half their members. Now,who knows where Ryan and Jon
are?" I laughed. I needed to know more about this band. I left his room, and went onto the computer. I
searched up Panic! At The Disco in Google. I found their wikipedia page. I read through it carefully. "They
were awesome", I thought. I went to Youtube and searched up their music videos. One was really
entertaining, it had Brendon Urie messing up a wedding and bringing in circus freaks, all doing this in a top
hat and suit. He really liked wearing that top hat. He wore it in a different video of his where he was
attending his own funeral and in a costume with gears on it. He was an entertaining character, this
Brendon Urie. I watched more and more videos that were related to this band. I really started to like them. I
was browsing the links on the side page, and found a band called My Chemical Romance. I watched a few
of their music videos, and thought they were awesome. I looked at the clock, and saw that it was late. I
went to my room and sang a few of their songs until I fell asleep singing. Little did I know, this was the most
important musical discovery of my life. I continued to listen to their music for the next few days, and grew to
love them. I finally placed them as my favorite band about a week later. I have found so many other bands
since then, but Panic! At The Disco has a permanent piece of my heart.
